I am a cereal killer

Having worked in supermarket during my humble years groomed me into a compulsive tourist in convenience stores. It is my secret ally way out to stress relief, just hop down to the supermarket or convenience store, check out their aisles, life is much better.

I was the shortest one (obviously) amongst all staff unboxing the incoming cereal boxes on the breakfast aisle. I never wondered why I only needed to unbox and fill in the new comers but never seen anyone nor was I asked to remove the expired ones. Seriously, do they actually sell all of them, and each brand of them, before the mean expiry dates? There are some serious boring cereal there nobody would look at, but how?

I love breakfast with oat or cereals, besides my vegemite and toast (gulps), it is a soothing sound to listen to the rhythm of my tiny cereals hitting my cereal bowl and watching them drown in my special milk (lactose intolerance zone).

Whether you like cereal or not, have you thought about these cereal boxes’ shelf lives? They spent all their young lives making their long way to the breakfast aisle of the supermarket. Next they were unboxed and aligned one by one on the shelf like in military parade. Each morning they wait for the shop to open, sit as still as they can be and fix their bodies to be aligned to one another. Will they ever forget their goal is to be sold? and be consumed and give nutrition and energy to me? I wondered when I venture out to the supermarket grabbing my favourite cereal box, what would its neighbour think? “you are disturbing the calmness of all cereal boxes?” or “congrats mate, all the beat” or “oh crap guys, one man down!” and what would my cereal box think?

Life sometimes is like this. In status quo we keep things in its orderly routine. And when a ripple of disorder happens, instead of rejoicing for His hand picking kairos moment, we panic and think it got out of control. As a food for thought, literally, I will start my cereal breakfast, be a cereal killer.

Which cereal box are you?
