I’m a flower 🌷 oh crap

A flower planted on cow crap 💩 this is a chinese slang basically saying a flower in the hands of those who had no intention of keeping her. In other words, wasted.

Nanako san, my boss’ plant 🌱 has been quite a resident in our office. Toby and I take turns to water Nanako san (with my boss un-drunk water 💦 🤫). She has grown so much now needs to hold on to something as her pot no longer can support her statue. Are you having same problem as Nanako san?

The word “special edition” is this century’s best selling marketing scheme. Most ladies eyes will twinkle at the mentioning of “special edition” plus “limited time only”, effectively will cause them to take out their purses to commit. But not the case to humans. Being a “special edition” can be challenging. The word “special” in a child description often implies he/she is different (or slower) than other (normal) kids. As if that child is an unwanted damaged good. I too have been struggling with my special-ness, uniqueness is the proper English word. Being so cognitively geared, God has got me a supreme adaptive power I can use my left brain 🧠 to solve all human problems. Until today…

This is not a fun writing ✍🏻 just purging out my constipated emotions. Yes constipation 🚽 As a kid, I wasn’t welcomed to Sunday schools with my brainiac questions. As an adult, I once again got this closed door 🚪 [nonono I am still attending church with community, this is an old story].

I am a cereal killer

Having worked in supermarket during my humble years groomed me into a compulsive tourist in convenience stores. It is my secret ally way out to stress relief, just hop down to the supermarket or convenience store, check out their aisles, life is much better.

I was the shortest one (obviously) amongst all staff unboxing the incoming cereal boxes on the breakfast aisle. I never wondered why I only needed to unbox and fill in the new comers but never seen anyone nor was I asked to remove the expired ones. Seriously, do they actually sell all of them, and each brand of them, before the mean expiry dates? There are some serious boring cereal there nobody would look at, but how?

I love breakfast with oat or cereals, besides my vegemite and toast (gulps), it is a soothing sound to listen to the rhythm of my tiny cereals hitting my cereal bowl and watching them drown in my special milk (lactose intolerance zone).

Whether you like cereal or not, have you thought about these cereal boxes’ shelf lives? They spent all their young lives making their long way to the breakfast aisle of the supermarket. Next they were unboxed and aligned one by one on the shelf like in military parade. Each morning they wait for the shop to open, sit as still as they can be and fix their bodies to be aligned to one another. Will they ever forget their goal is to be sold? and be consumed and give nutrition and energy to me? I wondered when I venture out to the supermarket grabbing my favourite cereal box, what would its neighbour think? “you are disturbing the calmness of all cereal boxes?” or “congrats mate, all the beat” or “oh crap guys, one man down!” and what would my cereal box think?

Life sometimes is like this. In status quo we keep things in its orderly routine. And when a ripple of disorder happens, instead of rejoicing for His hand picking kairos moment, we panic and think it got out of control. As a food for thought, literally, I will start my cereal breakfast, be a cereal killer.

Which cereal box are you?

Leaves 🍁 leaves

2019 left in a rush, left with 2020.

One decade has gone, another just budded. Leaves 🍁 were attached to branches, blown away by a swirl of wind, gone. Just like that. Some said it takes a decade to grow a tree 🌳 and just a little blow, leaves leaves and left a lonesome and bald 🌳 some artists or scientists call it winter, change of season.

Where did leaves go? I don’t know. They never wrote back after leaving. Old leaves leaves 🍁 New leaves grow. If a tree 🌳 were to pray over each of its leaves, man should pray over each person in his or her vicinity. Start the first working day praying for my staff, my family, my new and old leaves 🍁

Prayer for myself: I cannot mess up His plans nor I can do anything to undo His. And I trust His ways always higher His plans always better. In His Kairos time not my chronos time, His will be done ✅

So now coffee or mee? ☕️

coffee or mee

“Growing up” in a Greek family did not me any Greeker except perhaps my maths were better in comparison. I remember hating the Egyptian-Greek decor of my room when I stepped into my homestay family back in my Aussie days. Oh well, thereafter we had countless stories to tell, but for another time.

Prior to Australia, my life was simple. Home-School-HelpMyParents-Homework-Sleep and repeat. I had friends, from school and they are still in touch, only the remnants 🤷🏻‍♀️ One thing I know about myself before knowing Christ is that I am so funny that by osmosis you can laugh by sitting around me. Australia didn’t make me less funny, in fact the other way around and in English even! I almost failed English (I didn’t understand why I need to learn English so it was one of my nap time in English classes), anyhow, I grew in Australia 🇦🇺

From Australia 🇦🇺 I moved to Shanghai 🇨🇳 and then back to Hong Kong 🇭🇰 plus one special year in Tokyo 🇯🇵 featuring a broken hearted me. After years of growing, I know my ups and downs. My time and His time and each time, it is an acquired taste at first but always better afterwards. At least the after taste counts.

This time, I am not the funny one, but a ball of offence. I wish I have a machine telling me what did I do wrong. It is literally by osmosis I offended many. It hurts when your dearest ones left you and hurt more when knowing they were hurt by you, by your mere existence. It is actually ugly and crap, but let’s not peek into the oven and let it fully bake.

It may be end of the relationship but nevertheless not the end for me. God has not done with me yet. It is now a time for Him to undo and redo and a new thing will come to being because He is the Creator, He makes all things new. This is now me time with God, because it is Kairos time.

Finding Ali

If there is a hotel called “lost and found”, I know I am the owner (it has my name on it!).

I lost my iPhone my blackberry countless times (I can mentally hold up to double-digit counts). I lost my purse and my staff cards so many time and I firmly believe I am super blessed from heaven to earth to be able to find almost all my lost items.

I have a registry for (really) lost items: an expensive headset, a new iPhone, a heap of my savings, a bunch of friends, and my dream job, … I count these lost as gain.

It is very sad losing the dream job, I feel unwanted. But I am still employed with great company in my team. And I have a hope that is limitless. Just like this wutong tree (Chinese Parasol tree). Leaves leave, and will grow again.

Lost Property

Lost items, it is a mystery to me. How did things get lost? They are mindless, soul-less being! But they do, usually when they are bored with my ownership tenor, but evidence shows sometimes they don’t even bother waiting, just disappear even as brand-new acquaintance. My kindie school bag, iPhones, Blacberries, purse and staff ID oh my goodness…

Have you wondered if it was I losing my stuff or my stuff simply got lost? I cannot commit myself to actually lose things but from time to time I get lost even in my most familiar neighbourhood. I guess as an inspiring person as I am, even my stuff get the radiating impact from my get-lost-ness and simply gotten lost. Did you wonder if it was Mary and Joseph lose Jesus when they brought him back to Jerusalem during the Feast of Passover? Or did Jesus find His way to the synagogue (i.e. He got lost) Himself and lost His parents Mary and Joseph? I choose to believe my stuff just got lost themselves.

It definitely require some self-control and/or self-discipline to steward/ shepherd my belongings. I may have bottled myself with way much work-stress, consumed with my relational matters, overwhelmed by my late activities. I declare curfew from now on until further notice. It is now to be a doer, not a time for a beer! I tallied my amazing inventory of lost, if one can win a trophy on how many lost properties you reported, I am quite confident that I am on the elite RHS of the bell curve.

On the topic of “Lost” this page kept losing what I typed and reload as blank. So in closing, I want to make a paradigm shift in view of losing stuff. It may be devastating when losing my phone permanently and not knowing where are my purse and IDs, but there are flip sides to things. I get to resume to use an order version of iPhone which fits perfectly to my hobbit-sized palm; and the further lost of purse and IDs prompt me to curfew and quality time to fish research which ended the longest procrastination. First sharing of my digital-doodling to end this paragraph. It may be a shame to lose that kite, but the kite is now unbound to free flow to wherever the wind may blow and can really look back and focus on the field which is at time of harvest.

Let’s crack some CoCoNutS 🥥🥥🥥

I am not a nut, I am a fruit, mee is a coconut 🥥🥥🥥🥥🥥

Be yourself; Everyone else is already taken.

— Oscar Wilde.

WordPress has quite nice quote here so I did not bother to remove and allowed it a residency. Yes everyone else is already taken, so be yourself. It is August 18, 2019 today when I was prompted to document my brilliant minds in this space.

I am based in Hong Kong (so if you are up to date or search later if afterwards, we are in some difficult times owing to the controversial extradition bill leading to this many weeks protest). It is not my intention to comment from a political standpoint, just to give you a sense of time and space of me, the author, writing this.

Purpose of this space is:

  • Launch my amazing doodling arts and it is digital, so millennial
  • Publish a probably the world’s funniest story between an octopus and a sunfish (also called mola mola)
  • Parking lots for a vision God has gifted me — CHOPSTICKS
  • Dream time demonstrations: an alternative ways to look at the world matters

My name is Alison, or Ali as some decided to be close acquaintance and finished calling me without completing my full name. I work in a bank overseeing 18 countries in Asia Pacific (so what right) and studying marine biology on a part-time basis. I am a child of God and have a brain of a genius level. This space is not for the fainthearted.

Come dance with me.
